Auger Shells of Southwest Florida

Check out the shallow-water auger shells (family Terebridae) found along the coast of Southwest Florida: 1 – Eastern Auger (Neoterebra dislocata); 2 – Tongue Auger (Neoterebra glossema); 3 – Fine-ribbed Auger (Neoterebra protexta); 4 – Lilac Auger (Neoterebra vinosa). The individual shell photos are not at the same scale. (The scale units are millimeters [mm]; 1 mm = 0.04 inch.) And, as usual, click on each scientific name to see the relevant entries and the differences among them in our Southwest Florida Shells guide.
