Our beach walks are led by Marine Biologists who are fun, entertaining and in-the-know!

The National Shell Museum offers guided beach walks throughout the entire year! In addition to daily walks at the Island Inn, we also offer summer monthly guided excursions at Bunche Beach with world-renowned Marine Biologist Dr. José H. Leal. Our Marine Biologists are enthusiastic about sharing their knowledge and hope to inspire you to look at our beaches and shelling in exciting new ways.

Join our Marine Biologist for an hour long beach walk near Island Inn. Walks depart daily from the Island Inn lobby at 9 a.m. Learn about the shells, mollusks, and other marine life that has washed ashore.

The cost is $10 for adults and $7 for children (ages 5-17). Parking at Island Inn is free for beach walk participants. Space is limited so book online now or by calling (239) 395-2233 to make a reservation. Please call the Museum if your party is larger than the allotted spaces.

All participants receive a coupon for half-off Shell Museum admission.

Beach walk tickets are non-refundable. A full refund will be given if the Museum cancels due to weather.

NOTE: If you are a current guest at the Island Inn, please make your reservation through the hotel directly.

There are no beach walks on Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day, or New Year's Day

Dedicated in 1949, Bunche Beach (officially called the San Carlos Bay/Bunche Beach Preserve) is a 718-acre facility located on San Carlos Bay. The natural tidal wetlands are a particularly good area to see mollusks.

Staff lead low-tide excursions at Bunche Beach. Dr. Leal, the Shell Museum's Science Director & Curator, “Bunche Beach is a pristine area that is a classic example of the protected “back bay” coastal sections of Southwest Florida. Given the very gentle slope of the sandy beach area, low tides at Bunche Beach are characterized by exposure of very large expanses of sandy bottom, which enables the observation of the diverse and abundant local marine life."

The cost is $12 for non-member adults and $7 for non-member children (ages 5-17). The cost is $10 for member adults and $5 for member children (ages 5-17). Parking is $2 per hour. The beach walk will last about an hour.
