Save The Date: Dr. José H. Leal Leading Adventures In Paradise-Sponsored Shelling Adventure

On February 1, 2010 Adventures In Paradise is sponsoring a boat trip and shelling adventure, led by the area’s leading shell expert, Dr. José H. Leal, Director/Curator for the Shell Museum. Dr. Leal will assist with shell identification as well as lead a discussion on mollusks and the environment.  Adventures In Paradise will donate all event proceeds to The Bailey-Matthews Shell Museum. This trip was originally scheduled for December 19, 2009 but bad weather caused cancellation of the trip.  Reservatons can be made by calling Adventures In Paradise at 239.472.8443.

The trip will depart from Port Sanibel Marina at 9 a.m. Participants will board a 45 foot powered catamaran and enjoy a beautiful one hour cruise through the intracoastal waterway to  North Captiva  beaches accessible only by boat or plane, where they will watch dolphins at play and shell along pristine braches that only few have the opportunity to experience.

Lunch will be served at Barnacle Phil’s, on North Captiva Island.  Their menu features Caribbean island favorites including seafood chowder, black beans and yellow rice, and jerk-style fresh fish and chicken.  The group will return to port at about 3 p.m.  Tickets are $65.00 for non-museum members and $55.00 for Museum members.  Lunch is not included in the price of the tickets.  To make a reservation call Adventures In Paradise at  239.472.8443.
